Get ready to return to Northern England in Atomfall’s new DLC story expansion. The Red Strain is the second expansion to the mystery survival game after Wicked Isle launched in June.
The teaser keeps details pretty close to the chest. Although there does appear to be a BARD robot rebranded to be a C.O.R.E bot instead, whatever that means. Besides the brief teaser, Rebellion promises “a highly confidential new location and plenty more mysteries to uncover” alongside more details to be revealed closer to launch on September 16th.
When the base game launched in March I gave it an 8.5/10, saying it was “a showcase of narrative freedom that allows players to discover their own story within a tightly designed puzzle sandbox.” Atomfall was also a huge success for developer Rebellion, as the companies most successful launch in their 32 year history. Given this, I expect The Red Strain won’t be the last we’ll see of the Wyndham exclusion zone.
I must admit I haven’t played Wicked Isle, which seems to have been met with a more tepid critical response. However, once The Red Strain launches I’ll be heavily tempted to see what new mysteries Rebellion has crafted.
