In my darkest dreams, I see that place, and we’ll be returning to Silent Hill not only in September with Silent Hill f, but in January 2026 with the newest film adaptation. The first teaser trailer for Return to Silent Hill doesn’t give us a lot, but it does give us some… interesting details.
The thing I’m most interested about is that based on the teaser and the description in the video itself, we appear to be following James Sunderland and the story of Silent Hill 2, which only just got a remake not even a year ago. The James in the trailer doesn’t exactly look how we know him, with Jeremy Irvine portraying a dark haired and bearded James, a far cry from the blonde cleanshaven character we all know. Hannah Emily Anderson will be playing Mary, and Evie Templeton, who voiced Laura in the Silent Hill 2 video game remake, will be also bringing her into live action.
This movie is once again coming to us from director Christophe Gans, who directed the original 2006 Silent Hill movie. People really weren’t a fan of that one, so it’ll be interesting to see if he can redeem himself in the eyes of the Silent Hill fanbase. Gans has said that his “sensibilities had evolved since the release of the first film“, which could be a good sign. He has also mentioned that film takes inspiration from P.T, the teaser for Silent Hills, which was sadly cancelled. It’ll be interesting to see how closely they follow the story of Silent Hill 2, or if they veer off the track entirely. As we all agree, the movies aren’t canon anyway.
I’m mostly just excited to see Pyramid Head on the big screen.
Return to Silent Hill will be coming to cinemas in January 2026.
