Announced during Nintendo’s latest Indie World showcase in August 2025, Yacht Club Games’ upcoming game, Mina the Hollower, finally has a release date. Similar to the studio’s first major title, Shovel Knight, Mina the Hollower has a decidedly retro flair to its gameplay and aesthetics, taking strongly after the old SNES and Game Boy Legend of Zelda titles. Fortunately for those who have been keenly awaiting its release, they won’t have long to wait, and there’s a free demo to tide them over in the meantime.
In Mina the Hollower, you play as, well, a heroic mouse named Mina the Hollower. Armed with a whip named Nightstar and arsenal of subweapons, Mina must take on a menagerie of beastly bosses and lift the island’s curse. Similar to Shovel Knight and its clear Mega Man influences, the Zelda homages in Mina the Hollower’s gameplay (with bits of old Castlevania thrown in for good measure) are hard to ignore, but it all looks charming enough, and with enough unique personality, to make it very appealing. Longtime Shovel Knight composer Jake Kaufman is returning, bringing his chiptune tracks to the new title.
A free playable demo has now been released for players to try it out. Until then, players will have to wait for Mina the Hollower to get its full release on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC on the 31st of October 2025.
