New ideas vs. Sequels

Posted on April 26, 2018

Listen to the show!

This week on the show, we’re discussing the balance between new ideas vs. sequels when it comes to video game releases! Every year there are so many video games that come out, from indie developers to big AAA publishers. There are lots of new ideas out there and new concepts, but often we see the same big names brought out again and again year after year, like Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed and more. Join Luke, Elliot, Cam and Edith as they discuss the difference between a new IP and a sequel, why people get more hyped for one over the other and whether or not sequels are done far too often compared to new ideas. Would you rather see a sequel to a game that you know you already like, or would you rather experience something completely different? Does the overall quality play a part in this? On the flip side, can a really terrible sequel tarnish the reputation of a franchise you previously loved? Also this week, Luke reviews what very well could be the best game of 2018 in God of War! Don’t miss any of the action and don’t forget to check out the first half of this podcast to keep up to date!
