Remakes & Remasters

Posted on May 24, 2018

Listen to the show!

This week on the show, it’s all about remakes and remasters of video games. A trend that publishers often rely on, when they have already made a video game that was a proven success in a previous console generation, they simply re-release it on the new generation. This can be a good thing, as we get to play some classics again with updated graphics and new gamers who missed it the first time around get the chance to experience it. On the flip-side, they’re asking you to buy the same game again, sometimes only a couple of years after it originally released! Join Elliot, Cam, Kolby and Kieren as they discuss the best thing about remakes and remasters, along with the issues that this can cause in the industry. Shouldn’t we be craving new ideas and sequels instead of just remade versions of older games? Do video games from older generations always hold up when released in the modern era? What are some of the success stories, the failures, and what games do we want to see remastered today? Also on this episode, Edith has gone for another round of Zelda themed combat in Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition on the Switch!

Kieren Munn

A typical gaymer, I enjoy most RPG's, Platformers, and Fighting games. I started gaming early with Sonic the Hedgehog, Mortal Kombat and Alex the Kidd on my Sega Mega Drive. This started a "healthy" obsession that has spanned 5 generations of consoles, and I won't be stopping anytime soon.
