Overwatch Anniversary officially announced

Posted on May 18, 2017

It’s nearly been a year since Overwatch was released to the world. Since then, thousands of people have been trolled by Mei, pinned by Reinheardt and nerfed by D.Va. To celebrate, Blizzard are running a new event for the anniversary which should come with all the usual goodies for your heroes like sprays, emotes and skins for you to show off. The event will run from the 23rd of May through to June 12th. This confirms rumours from earlier in the week after a reddit user conducted some clever data-mining.

The crew over at Blizzard have put together this video recapping the massive year they have had and offering their thank you to the community that has made Overwatch such a huge success.

We also heard earlier this week that there could be a Game Of the Year edition released which Blizzard have also confirmed. The GOTY edition will release digitally on PS4, Xbox One and PC and will include heaps of goodies for new players to help them ease into their new life as an Overwatch addict, and other fun items for other Blizzard games.

Including the main game, here’s what else you get in the GOTY edition:

  • Overwatch – 10 Bonus Loot Boxes
Enjoy 10 bonus Loot Boxes which each contain random items that can be used to customise the appearance of your heroes and personalise them. Loot Boxes may include Skins, Emotes, Victory Poses, Voice Lines, Sprays, and Highlight Intros, as well as Credits you can use to acquire many different customisation options.
  • Overwatch – Hero Skins
Pay homage to the original Overwatch strike force by wearing the vintage Blackwatch Reyes or Strike-Commander Morrison skins. Explore other heroes’ origins with Overgrown Bastion, Security Chief Pharah, and even Slipstream Tracer!
  • Heroes of the Storm – Tracer Hero
Jump into the Nexus with Tracer and surprise your enemies in the blink of an eye.
  • World of Warcraft – Baby Winston Pet
Adorably cuddly and highly intellectual, the Baby Winston pet will be at your side as you fight your way through Azeroth.
  • Diablo III – Mercy’s Wings
Slay demonic forces throughout the High Heavens and Burning Hells as you don Mercy’s wings. All of Sanctuary will know of your allegiance to Overwatch!
  • StarCraft II  – In-game Portraits and a Hearthstone Card Back!
With portraits of Tracer, Reaper, Pharah, Winston, Bastion, and Soldier: 76, you’re sure to become a champion of the Koprulu Sector. You can also battle it out in Hearthstone with an Overwatch-themed card back fit for a hero!

And lastly to celebrate there will be another free weekend for you to try out the game for yourself! The free weekend will run from May 26th-29th and you can find more information about it at Blizzard’s very regularly updated developer blog.

It’s not too late to jump into Overwatch, the game is very much alive and it doesn’t look like Blizzard have any plans to slow down with the updates.
