Larian opens new studio as the team work on “two very ambitious RPGs”

Larian Studios, the incredibly talented development team behind the massive success that is Baldur’s Gate 3, has announced they are expanding by opening up a new studio in Warsaw, Poland. The news hit X (formerly Twitter) where the team gleefully announced that Warsaw would become their 7th development studio (!). The expansion is likely tied to the studio’s monumental success and the sales of Baldur’s Gate 3, a title that launched into virality last year, won multiple Game of the Year awards and continues to be updated semi-regularly.

Perhaps even more exciting for fans of the studio is that the team is reportedly working on two “very ambitious” new role-playing games. Whether these are new IPs or working on existing properties we don’t yet know. Though Larian boss Swen Vincke has previously teased that one project he is working on has already had its first act mapped out.

In an industry that seems to be very quick to shut studios at the moment, it’s amazing to hear a success story that involves the expansion of a developer with new staff being recruited rather than let go. We can only hope that whatever Larian Studios Warsaw is working on is comparable to Larian’s previously excellent body of work.
