Coming Out in gaming this week — May 18, 2020

Posted on May 17, 2020

Each week there are plenty of new games coming out. Although with so much going on it can be hard to keep track of them all. Thankfully Checkpoint is here to sift through them all and bring you our highlights of the week.

So let’s jump in and have a look at what’s coming out this week.

Cannibal Cuisine

Date (Aus): 20/05/2020
Genre:
Party
Platforms: PC, Switch

“The recipes for success are varied; find delicious fruits and vegetables, and combine them with freshly chopped and cooked tourists for a truly divine delicacy fit for the God Hoochooboo. Of course the tourists might not offer themselves up freely, the heathens, so you’ll need to master your arcade reflexes, voodoo magic and fire breathing, useful for baking as well, to persuade them without getting KO’d!

Ready, steady, cook your way through many levels in a full campaign across the island. Overcome spikes in mysterious temples, bushwhack your way through tourist infested jungles and stay away from lava in the underground.

All kinds of extra-culinary skills are needed too to appease Hoochooboo. Skills such as outrunning the Spikey Log of Doom™, defeating waves of tourists and the tour boss in the jungle arena, as well as other challenge levels to prove yourself as the one true cook.”

Crucible

Date (Aus): 21/05/2020
Genre:
Team-Based Shooter
Platforms: PC

Crucible is a team-based action shooter driven by the choices you make. Each match in Crucible is a fight for survival and control. Not only will you be going toe-to-toe with your fellow competitors, but you’ll have to adapt and overcome all the challenges the planet itself throws your way. You and your teammates will need to work together to take down alien creatures, capture objectives, and pursue your opponents in search of victory.

Whether you prefer to bring an axe to a gunfight, think that the best way to solve problems is by lighting them on fire, or want to keep your options open with multiple weapons, there’s a hunter to suit your playstyle. Crucible‘s 10 hunters each come with their own unique set of abilities—how you use them is up to you.

The Wonderful 101 Remastered

Date (Aus): 22/05/2020
Genre:
Action / Adventure
Platforms: PC, PS4, Switch

“A team of heroes from around the world must UNITE to protect the earth from vicious alien invaders! This band of 100 Wonderful Ones works together using their fantastic abilities to create a variety of forms. Whether it be a giant fist or a sharp blade, they’ll use their wits and power to overcome the enemy’s pitfalls and perils! And the final member of this team of courageous heroes… is you.

Saints Row 3 Remastered

Date (Aus): 22/05/2020
Genre:
Action
Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One

Saints Row®: The Third™ – Remastered gives you control of the Saints at the height of their power, in an urban playground that is yours for the taking. Remastered with enhanced graphics, Steelport the original city of sin, has never looked so good as it drowns in sex, drugs and guns.

Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name, with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks and Johnny Gat bobblehead dolls all available at a store near you. The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints.

Refusing to kneel to the Syndicate, you take the fight to Steelport, a once-proud metropolis reduced to a struggling city of crime under Syndicate control. Take a tank skydiving, call in a satellite-targeted airstrike on a Mexican wrestling gang, and defend yourself against a highly-trained military force using a baseball bat in the most outlandish gameplay scenarios ever seen.”

Maneater
22/05/2020

It’s kind of hard not to get excited by the prospect of a shark RPG. Maneater is a game that allows you to live out the fantasy of being the ocean’s apex predator. This isn’t a super serious simulation either. This is a game where you begin as a shark pup, devour those that get in your way, level up, and acquire better skills. It sounds ridiculous, but it’s a concept Tripwire Interactive are embracing and fully developing without hesitation.

Maneater comes to us from an already established development studio. This is the team known for the Red Orchestra and Killing Floor series amongst others. They have an ability to make visceral and enjoyable action games that never fail to please. They also make games with serious lasting power and the kind of games communities flock to. Is Maneater their next big success? It certainly could be!
