After many expected Doomfist to be the next hero to join Overwatch, a recent “interview” with Efi Oladele certainly pointed to some sort of mechanical creation entering the fray instead. This has come to light today with the official origin story for Orisa being revealed by Blizzard.
Joining the Tank lineup, Orisa was “built from parts of one of Numbani’s short-lived OR15 defense robots, Orisa is the city’s newest protector, though she still has much to learn.” The 11-year-old Efi used her genius grant to purchase parts of an OR15 robot to create a city guardian. She’s certainly an interesting looking robot, with almost bug-like features. More importantly, here are her abilities:
Focusing on damage reduction for herself and her teammates, Orisa looks to join characters like Reinhardt as solid go-to defensive characters. She can launch a graviton charge that slows nearby enemies and pulls them towards the explosion which will prove handy when she is outnumbered, and she can put down a stationary protective barrier to help block incoming attacks.
Her ultimate shows her increasing damage inflicted by all allies within her line of sight; I’m picturing her being quite effective working with a character like Sombra, with the hacker making things difficult up ahead and opening up high damage from Orisa and a coordinated team.
There’s no release date yet for when Orisa will be joining Overwatch, but as the 24th character to join the game, we can’t wait to try her out. For more information on Orisa, click here.
