32 years since the world first met Mario, it seems there is still no substitute. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has absolutely flown off shelves.

Forbes have cited this tweet from Daniel Ahmad, an analyst at Niko Partners that claims Mario Kart 8 Deluxe may have already sold more than a million copies since its April 28th release.

This follows Nintendo’s reported first day sales of 459,000 units in the USA alone, making it the fastest selling of the Mario Kart series to date. When we remember that this is in fact a remake, the sales figures are staggering.

Nintendo stated publicly that as of March 31st, Switch sales were at the 2.74 million mark, with Breath of the Wild selling at a ratio of one to one. Now that there is a Zelda alternative, will new Switch customers choose Zelda, Mario Kart, Or both?

Either way, Mario is still a force to be reckoned with. At this point, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe appears to be half way toward becoming the best selling title on Nintendo’s newest console.
