If Zoolander taught us anything it’s that male models make the world’s most efficient assassin’s. So surely Noctis and his boy band of “really really really ridiculously good looking” compatriots must be some of the best assassins around? That would have to be the thinking behind Final Fantasy XV’s latest Free DLC, Assassin’s Festival, which brings together the SquareEnix RPG with Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Set in the town of Lestallum, the new event will run from August 31st to January 31st with what looks to be a new story mission, mini games and some of the gameplay mechanics we recognise from the Assassin’s Creed franchise. On August 30th players who collected the Dream Egg from the current Moogle Chocobo Carnival will be awarded with Master Assassin’s Robe which you’ll recognise as Altair’s robes. You will also be given the chance to receive new items such as the “Medway Assassin’s Robe” which is based off of new hero Bayek.
This isn’t the first time Assassin’s Creed has appeared in a Final Fantasy game. Back in Final Fantasy XIII-2 protagonist Noel could wear the cloak of grizzled Altair. Assassin’s creed has also popped up in other games, Snake was able to don the Assassin’s Robes in Metal Gear Solid 4 and Ezio was able to locate the cyborg ninja Raiden’s armour to really mess with the Borgia.
While the Final Fantasy XV update is free, so there’s really no reason to complain about the addition — I’m still allowed to say that it feels all a little odd. However I’m not sure what I would expect from a game that gave us the Cup Noodle mission, the side quest that single handedly made me delete the game without a second thought.
This week has seen a lot of news for Final Fantasy XV, from pocket editions to a PC release. It seems like after over a decade of development this title isn’t ready to bow out. This new update is ready to download ahead of release on PS4 and Xbox One right now.
