After the shock announcement about a new, real Metroid game at E3 earlier in the year, Nintendo has gifted us with a new trailer featuring Samus Aran and her old and new mechanics.
As well as the ever beloved Morph Ball and other mechanics seen in earlier games, we have new abilities to look forward to. There’s a Scan Pulse which reveals a small part of the map around Samus, Lightning Armour which protects Samus from damage, Beam Burst which enhances her cannon weapon, and Phase Drift which slows down time. These new “Aeion Abilities” share an energy pool which depletes so it’s up to the player to decide when is most prudent to activate them.
The release date is slated for September 15th (in the U.S., at least) so it’s not long to wait for the first real Metroid game in well over a decade.
