In anticipation of its release on October 6th, a demo of Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony is now available to play on the PlayStation Store on both PS4 and PS Vita.
Danganronpa V3 continues the weird visual novel murder mystery franchise, featuring psychotic bear Monokuma as he torments a bunch of students until they begin killing each other, before putting everybody on trial to find the culprit.
The Danganronpa games have always been a love of mine, with Danganronpa 1•2 Reload and Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls being original Vita releases that got remade for the PS4 earlier this year.
My initial concern with a demo in such a story driven game like Danganronpa V3 is that it would give away part of the story or have me play through an area that I would have to do again when the game comes out. In fantastic news, this demo serves more as a sort of Prologue, allowing players to familiarise themselves with the world and characters before the game launches but without spoiling anything in the main narrative.
Completing the demo will even give you in-game rewards when the full game releases, including an extra cut-scene, Monocoins, and a Class Trial skill, more than justifying its existence for those who already know they want to purchase the next edition in this series with a real cult-following.
Explaining how Danganronpa plays to those who have no idea what it is has always been a barrier for entry, as it’s difficult to comprehend if you haven’t seen it for yourself. Hopefully this demo gives uncertain players a chance to give it a crack. I mean, why not, right?
