Crystal Dynamics expands their team with talent from AAA developers

Crystal Dynamics, developers of the internationally acclaimed Tomb Raider franchise, have announced expansions to their studio by bringing in 15 new staff from top names in the industry. The new recruits come from several well-known studios, including Naughty Dog and Visceral Games. This announcement comes in light of the development of a new The Avengers project, as well as the recent announcement of a new entry to the Tomb Raider franchise.

Crystal Dynamics, celebrating 25 years with new staff and new projects

Amongst the new talent are former Naughty Dog Creative Director Shaun Escayg, now the new Creative Director of The Avengers Project. Escayg has some incredible titles under his belt, as the Creative Director and writer of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and also the Director of Photography and Animation Supervisor on The Last of Us. In addition, Stephen Barry from EA/Visceral Games has been brought on as Director of Production. Barry has previously been involved with both Electronic Arts and as the Director of Product Development at Visceral Games. The titles Barry has worked on include the survival horror Dead Space franchise.

Crystal Dynamics has brought on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy writer Shaun Escayg

Scot Amos, Co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics has stated that they are “committed to delivering an incredible, completely original Avengers experience. Stephen Barry from EA joins Crystal Dynamics as Director of Production

Ron Rosenberg, Co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics has said the studio “recently hired fifteen world-renowned industry veterans, spanning production leadership, animation, design, art and engineering, who have previously worked on games such as Batman: Arkham Origins, Dead Space, Star Wars: Battlefront and many more. Their AAA experience adds to an already deep roster, making us well-positioned to deliver on the ambitious goals we’ve set for ourselves with The Avengers project. It’s a stellar addition of many people who fit incredibly well into our wheelhouse of building game experiences we all love.”

Crystal Dynamics are a California-based game developer who have developed and published over 30 award-winning titles during the last 25 years. The developer has been responsible for multiple franchises including GEX, Legacy of Kain, and more recently, the Tomb Raider franchise. The studio is currently at work developing both a new The Avengers project, and a new entry into the Tomb Raider series.
