If there’s one qualm I have about Nintendo, it is their lack of third party games reaching their consoles. Be it licencing issues or insufficient processing power, some great games just never get a go on Nintendo. This was always what kept me at bay when buying Nintendo products, but thankfully the Switch has started taking cues from its loyal fans and begun to add more content that doesn’t just revolve around their classic staples. This time around a much beloved JRPG series Ys is getting the Nintendo treatment with the release announcement of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana!
Having reviewed Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana on the PlayStation 4, it brings me much joy to see those who only own a single console, like the Nintendo Switch, will have the chance to play this epic game. The story tells the tale of Adol who finds himself shipwrecked on a ‘cursed’ island that none have ever returned from. From here he will need to find other surviving crew members, battle fearsome ancient beasts, and unravel the mystery of a young woman named Dana whose sad tale haunts his dreams from across time and space.
As far as new content goes, not a whole lot has been announced in terms of changes or updates. The only really exciting feature of being ported onto the Nintendo Switch is, of course, the fact players will be able to explore Seiren Island from the palm of their hands. Granted, as most RPG players can attest, it’s certainly not the kind of genre you can pick up and play for a single hour and put back down, so be prepared for the long haul.
No specific release date has been announced yet, but has been slated for a Q3 2018 launch. Already available on the PlayStation4 and PC from the 30th of January 2017, Ys VII: Lacrimosa of Dana will undoubtedly make its way into a number of gamers homes this year!
