Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition is not the end for Square-Enix’s plans for Final Fantasy XV. At a panel at PAX East, Takefumi Terada, director of EPisode Ignis, has announced four new DLC Episodes for the game, focusing on side characters and fleshing out the world.
Scheduled to come out throughout 2019, the episodes are Episode Ardyn, Episode Aranea, Episode Lunafreya and Episode Noctis. They have been called “The Dawn of the Future” , and will give players the ability to explore alternate universe endings for the game. These DLCs are aimed at giving some much needed exposure and depth to well-liked characters from Final Fantasy XV, whose backstories and motivations were left ambiguous or relatively unexplored in the main game.
The currently released Episodes have focused on Noctis’ friends, Gladio, Prompto and Ignis, and focused on self-contained adventures that they undertook throughout the main game. They are included in the recently-released Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition version of the game, however the new episodes must be purchased separately.
This second season of DLC Episodes will begin rolling out at the beginning of 2019 with Episode Ardyn. Fortunately, they will be released at a more rapid and regular pace than the last four expansions.
