Code Vein is an upcoming third-person action RPG by developer Bandai Namco Entertainment that sets players into the role of a Revenant. Set in a post-apocalyptic dystopia, these immortal soldiers were created to counter the threat of mankind that appeared after the Great Collapse, a catastrophic event eradicating most of the population.
By injecting human corpses with the Biological Organ Regenerative Parasite, they were brought back from the dead, gaining superhuman capabilities and the ability to revive after death as long their heart stays intact at the cost of losing their memories. Players are tasked to embark into the world with a companion picked from the various residents of Vein to uncover their memories and an exit out of this new demented reality.
But that’s not all the news on Code Vein we have for you today, Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe have recently released a bunch of information about the games content, ranging from Characters, bosses to locations.
Yakumo has been revealed as a new buddy character. He proves to be an experienced fighter who positions himself in front of the enemy to protect his allies. The Drain Attack, which is performed by his Hounds, makes him a strong companion. Back in the past when he was still human, Mido (pictured above) used him for his cruel experiments. This is why Yakumo despises him even today. Also introduced was Emily Su, she formed a deep bond with Yakumo, because, just like him, she was trapped in the military facility where Mido experimented on her. After she was separated from Yakumo by the Great Collapse, he sets out in search of her.
Bandai have also unveiled the City of Falling Flame as a new location, a city left in ruins and haunted by an eternal fire. This city has a threat that turns everything left into ashes. The Thorns of Judgment wind their way through the whole city and players have to avoid obstacles like huge walls of flames and therefore explore everything carefully. The Lost called Blazing Radicals, who look somewhat like a knight, are not the only creature that hides in the flames, and you must always have your wits about you.
Lastly the Successor of the Claw was revealed as a major boss in Code Vein. A fearsome creature that covers its face with a mask and wields an impressive burning sword, it’s surely impressive. Always be on guard and avoid its sweeping attacks, this boss can burn the player if you get too close to his claws and its two tails.
With the Souls franchise now officially wrapped up there’s definitely room in Bandai Namco’s line up for this new franchise. It’s heavy with vampire themes, including “gifts” from the consumption of blood, and other supernatural abilities and I think that will certainly grab a lot of gamers attentions.
Code Vein was announced back in April 2017 and is finally headed our way with a scheduled release date of 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and I for one can’t wait to get my little gamer mits on it.
