Compulsion Games’ We Happy Few has finally got a release date, with a new trailer being dropped during Microsoft’s E3 show stating the game will be out on Xbox One, PC and Playstation 4 on August 10.
The controversial horror-survival game has been available on Steam’s Early Access and Xbox Game Preview since 2016, and has most recently made headlines after Australia’s Classification Board refused classification for the game. The refusal came about due to the game’s use of a fictitious hallucinogenic drug called “Joy”, which characters are forced to take to stay blissfully unaware of the world around them.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Microsoft’s recent acquisition of developer Compulsion Games will have any kind of impact on We Happy Few’s current refusal of classification in Australia. Compulsion Games already provided a fairly level headed response to ACB’s decision, indicating that they would appeal it. This could be made easier now that they have Microsoft’s formidable backing.
The August 10 release date was announced via a new story trailer that shows more of We Happy Few’s creepy, dystopian world – check it out above. You can now also pre-order the standard and deluxe editions from the game’s official website.
