City Interactive Games has shown a detailed gameplay trailer of its upcoming title Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts. In contrast to the open world gameplay of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, Contracts is bringing the series back to a more focused, level-based approach. Players must execute assassination contracts, whilst competing against rival snipers and surviving the harsh Siberian wilderness.
In Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts, players enter into a variety of detailed, open-ended locations with a target they must take out. On top of locating and sniping the target without being spotted, Contracts introduces the Rivals system. This means that, while you are trying to fulfil your contract, rival assassins controlled by the AI are also on task, who might try and steal your kill, or just remove you from the equation entirely. Players can either focus on completing the contract quickly, or try and take out the rival assassin before going for the target.
In terms to accomplishing objectives, the player can use multiple different strategies. Locations can be scouted via stealth, or robotic drones. You can try the sneaky approach, taking out guards quietly and leaving no trace. Alternately, shooting indiscriminately, causing chaos, and hoping the target ends up dead is still a last ditch resort. Each contract also comes with sub-contracts and optional objectives to give the player more ways to play. Tokens acquired from completing contracts can unlock new skills and upgrades for your gear.
Fittingly for a game named with the word “Sniper” in the title, the actual sniping is highly detailed, and core to the experience. Players will need to choose their ammunition and scope, select an appropriate vantage point, and ensure they are firing from a good angle. Planning how to infiltrate the location, and then successfully escaping, is also key.
Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts will have an in-depth single player campaign, as well as several multiplayer modes. The game will release on PS4, Xbox One and PC later this year.
