Double Fine, the amazing minds behind some of the most beloved games, have revealed they are joining Microsoft Studios. Accompanying the announcement is a brand new trailer for their upcoming Psychonauts 2.
Double Fine’s Tim Schafer took the E3 conference stage to make the announcement with Microsoft’s Matt Booty. The San Fransico studio is known for their outstanding work on Brutal Legend, Broken Age, Grim Fandango, and Psychonauts. Appropriately enough, Schafer presented a great trailer showcasing Psychonaut 2’s current gameplay.
What does this mean for the distribution of Double Fine games? Microsoft Studios is a group of developers that release under their publishing brand for Xbox and PC platforms. It is likely the publisher will now have exclusivity to many upcoming Double Fine games, or at least timed benefits
It is unknown weather Psychonauts 2 will be a part of this new deal, or if this only includes future Double Fine projects. For now, we must wait and see.
