In a surprise announcement, Bandai Namco has recently revealed their latest fighting game project One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows.
Imagine being an superhero so strong that a single punch is all that’s needed to defeat even the deadliest of foes. If it was that easy it would become a real snooze-fest, but for someone like Saitama, known to many a fan as One Punch Man, this is exactly the case. A trailer to commemorate the announcement was also released and it shows off several familiar from the superhero series.
The trailer does a great job of reiterating just how powerful the main character is, with Saitama taking several different combo attacks from enemies without so much as flinching. Additional characters like Genos, Mumen Rider, Speed-o’-Sound Sonic, and Fubki, have been added to the battle roster, hopefully with more to come. A Hero Nobody Knows will be a 3 v 3 fighter and is being developed by Spike Chunsoft, the creative team behind the popular shonen fighter Jump Force.
For those unfamiliar to the series, One Punch Man, tells the tale of Saitama as he rises the ranks of Superhero, all while inadvertently keeping his strength a secret from the wider superhero community. Despite the overwhelming power that Saitama exudes all he wishes for is an opponent that fight on his level – with no such contender yet showing themselves. One Punch Man utilises its secondary characters to help drive the narrative around Saitama, usually with poignant and touching moments of heroism thrown in.
Despite very little information being released along with the trailer, including the absence of a release date, we can confirm One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows will be playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. I’m looking forward to seeing how this cult-classic anime will fair once released, and can’t wait to see which other playable fighters will be announced in the near future.
