Konami’s side-scrolling running-and-gunning series Contra is making a return with Contra Rogue Corps. This new entry takes on an isometric twin-stick shooter approach to the action. Players control one of four playable members of the Rogue Corps as they gun down wave after wave of Fiends in the Damned City.
Set two years after the Alien Wars, a mysterious location known as the Damned City has sprung up. Infested by all manner of vicious Fiends, the Rogue Corps have come in to shoot them down. The Rogue Corps features returning Contra character Kaiser, as well as some offbeat newcomers, like a cyborg Panda and a mutant alien named The Gentleman, who has a posh British accent. Each character has unique weapons and abilities, which can upgraded and customised with resources gathered in-game.
Contra Rogue Corps can be played either single or local multiplayer. Players can either play through the story campaign, either solo or in co-op, or can play PvP against up to three other players. However you like to run and gun, this game will probably have a mode that is right for you.
If you are unfamiliar with the Contra series, Konami recently announced the Contra Anniversary Collection. The series began in gaming arcades in the 80s, before being ported to the NES, and seeing sequels on the Mega Drive and Super Nintendo. The franchise popularised the Konami Code, which was a series of button presses which would grant free lives in the original Contra.
Contra Rogue Corps will release on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on the 24th of September 2019.
