Skater XL is coming to console in July 2020

Easy Day Studios, the developers of the early-access hit Skater XL, have just announced that the popular indie title will also be releasing on console later this year. The skateboard simulator game will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on the 7th of July 2020.

The full release of the PC version is slated for the 7th of July this year as well. According to the developers, the July release will come with new maps and additional playable characters, including skating icons Tiago Lemos, Evan Smith, Tom Asta and Brandon Westgate.

Originally released on Steam in 2018, Skater XL received positive reviews for capturing the nuances of old school skateboarding games from the nineties. Even though the game was released on PC, Skater XL cannot be played with keyboard and mouse at all and instead calls for a controller. This has undoubtedly helped it cement its reputation for impressive movement controls and animations, and please fans of old-school skating titles like the Tony Hawk series.

Since its release in early access, the game has steadily garnered a fanbase, including a dedicated modding community. Some popular mods include extra maps, character customisation, a multiplayer mod, graphic upgrades, a camera control mod, and more.

Considering its current popularity and its growing fanbase, Skater XL might be quite a rival for the rumoured upcoming Tony Hawk game. Judging by Skater XL’s abundance of positive reviews so far, it might blow any competing games out of the water which, considering the last Tony Hawk game’s appalling reviews, might not be such a difficult thing to do.
