After the massive acquisition of ZeniMax Media by Microsoft, it’s been announced that the first big Bethesda title to hit Xbox Game Pass will be none other than DOOM Eternal. ZeniMax Media not only includes Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios but other studios such as Arkane, Alpha Dog and Roundhouse Studios.
DOOM 2016 was removed from Game Pass earlier in the year and did not release on the PC version of the service. DOOM Eternal has yet to be added to Game Pass, but a number of other Bethesda titles such as Dishonoured 2, Fallout 76 and Wolfenstein: Youngblood are all currently on the service.

Though Xbox Game Pass confirmed that the title will be coming to the service on the 1st of October 2020, a tweet by the company yesterday hinted that DOOM Eternal would be a Game Pass title. The tweet was of a fake internal Xbox email urging fans that they were “not dropping hints” within the screenshot and they shouldn’t “bother looking for them. there are none.” However, when fans reduced the exposure of the screenshot, the words “The Slayer is coming” were exposed.
With Game Pass making this move so quickly after acquiring ZeniMax, it will be interesting to see what other titles will make their way to the service. DOOM Eternal was released in May this year to rave reviews by critics and gamers. At Checkpoint our review said it is a game that is “hard to fault” due to “meticulous effort (going) into making this a lovingly polished and enjoyable experience.” Therefore, this title coming to Game Pass is a big win for members of the service!
DOOM Eternal will release on Xbox Game Pass on the 1st of October, 2020 with PC Xbox Game Pass access to come sometime “later in 2020.”
