Bandai Namco aims to take us on a 90’s anime fuelled nostalgia a trip with the story trailer for their new ‘brain punk’ IP, Scarlet Nexus.

Set in the 90’s inspired streets of New Himuka, the world  is being assaulted from above by the strange creatures known as “Others”. Its up to the Others Suppression Force (OSF), an elite squad of psychics, to help push back the threat and save the world. The game will follow Duel Protagonists, Yuito and Kasane as they serve along side the OSF and work to unravel the mystery behind their fractured world.

Scarlet Nexus’ 90’s cyberpunk streets and extreme sci-fi are reminiscent of classic nineties anime like Serial Experiments Lain, Outlaw Star, Ghost in the Shell S.A.C, and many more. The game bills itself as “Brain Punk”, citing its use of Psychic powers and Futuristic tech, which definitely lends the game an interesting appeal.

Game producer Keita Iizuka, the mind behind CodeVein, has gone on record saying “We want to create an experience of individuals with different, specific superpowers teaming up, So those superpowers in our case are brain powers… We like the idea of thinking about what happens if all humanity has a more developed brain.”

The game is set to release for the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC. There’s no word on a release date just yet, but with a new generation launching and the Christmas period closing in fast, we’re sure to hear more soon.
