Marvel’s Avengers publishers Square Enix have announced details of the game’s first DLC mission which will involve new playable character, Kate Bishop. The new chapter, Taking AIM, will be available free of charge for all who own the game. There will also be a new villain, the Super Adaptoid, that “will challenge players with a combination of skills and weaponry that mimic the Avengers’ attacks.”
Back in October, new Tachyon missions were released on player’s in-game War Tables and this, Square Enix has said, was a “lead-up” to the DLC launch. Taking AIM sees Bishop reappearing after investigating the disappearance of Nick Fury and her mentor, Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, following the tragic events of A-Day. These disappearances seem to connect with the sudden appearance of the Tachyon Rifts. Therefore, she begins to work to uncover the secret behind these time-warping rifts and how AIM is using them to their advantage. Her work against AIM leads her to work with the Avengers once again.
The Kate Bishop mission begins just after the main game’s final campaign and is part one of a two part Hawkeye Story Arc. Hawkeye will also be a playable character and join the Avengers team early in 2021.
This post launch content was supposed to be released sooner than December, but due to the Avengers having some gameplay issues post launch, devs Crystal Dynamics announced in October that they would be delaying the DLC’s launch. Â The games online numbers have also taken a dive, with Steam Charts showing that in the last month, the game has only had 805 players online. That is a massive drop from when the game was first released in September when it had 28,000 players.
Hopefully Taking AIM won’t be a buggy mess and a bit of faith will be restored for Marvel’s Avengers after a sorrowful few months. The Taking AIM mission will be available from the 8th of December. Marvel’s Avengers is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
