Posted on November 19, 2020

Despite the turbulence caused this year by the global pandemic, a number of incredible games were released and it’s now time to celebrate their success. The Game Awards have announced their nominees for 2020 highlighting excellence in the gaming industry across fields of development, design, accessibility, content creation, and esports prowess. We’ve selected a few notable categories below.

Game of the Year Nominees:

  • Doom Eternal
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Hades
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  • The Last of Us Part II

Bethesda’s demon-slaying sequel unsurprisingly makes the GOTY list, as does its wholesome March-releasing pal in Nintendo’s Animal Crossing. Epic and highly anticipated narratives in Ghost of Tsushima, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and The Last of Us Part II were slated for nomination almost as soon as they were released, while indie dynamo Hades welcomes its much-deserved recognition.

It has been an excellent year for indie lovers with the excellent monster-fantasy Carrion being recognised, along with the explosively popular Fall Guys, the bittersweet Spiritfarer, and the much anticipated sequel to indie darling Spelunky. The sci-fi strategy game 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim impressed with its convoluted story as did most of the GOTY nominees. The best score nominee list represents this year’s most effective gaming tunes – go and add these five soundtracks to your studying playlists right away.
