Finally, Bloober Team’s horror game, The Medium, has been classified for Australian audiences. The Medium, which is set in a spiritual world and the real world via split screen in game, was refused classification just over a month ago. Also, not that long after, the devs decided to delay the game until early 2021.
The Australian Government has now given the game an R18+ rating which is pretty much the highest rating a game can have before it is refused distribution in Australia. The reason for the R rating according to the Australian Classification website is due to “References to sexual violence.”
As you can see from the graph above, The Medium has scored extremely highly on the violence scale, yet quite low on the sex and nudity front… which makes me wonder why the reason for the rating is due to “sexual violence”? It could possibly be implied due to the Language being of “moderate impact” but we will have to wait and see when the game is released in January of 2021.
The Medium will be released on Xbox Series X/S and PC on January 28th, 2021.
