Borderlands movie adds Jamie Lee Curtis to cast

The very real and still baffling in concept Borderlands movie looks to be picking up steam once more. The original scream queen herself Jamie Lee Curtis is set to join the star-studded cast of the upcoming Gearbox adapted film. The Halloween star is playing none other than Dr. Patricia Tannis.

It’s an interesting casting choice but probably the most fitting thus far for the movie. Curtis will be joining Cate Blanchett’s role as Lillith and Kevin Hart’s role as Roland (still hard to envision). Tannis as a character is quite integral to the Borderlands franchise. She (like many of the franchise characters) is a bit of a kooky individual. They’re a scientist and archaeologist that has dedicated their life to studying the series’ mysterious Eridian artefacts and technology. She’s always been a prominent Borderlands figure but that came to a head in quite a big way in 2019’s Borderlands 3.  Picture a Jamie Lee Curtis stepping into the shoes, dyed hair and with the energy of her performance in something like Knives Out, and she might just nail it.

The Borderlands movie is currently expected to begin production in Hungary sometime in the near future. The sci-fi action film is being directed by Hostel director Eli Roth while the screenplay is being penned by Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin and Aaron Berg.

“Working with the iconic Jamie Lee Curtis has been a lifelong dream of mine, and I am so excited for her to bring her humour, warmth and brilliance to the role of Tannis,” said Roth in a statement regarding the news.

The Borderlands movie is quite a curious project that is yet to be proven but hey, maybe it’ll be another video game movie that falls in the “so bad it’s good” category. Time will certainly tell.
