Ubisoft has officially announced the release date for Fary Cry 6 during a gameplay reveal trailer that premiered overnight. The trailer is below (beginning at the 29:48 timestamp):
The trailer gives us our very first look at protagonist Dani Rojas, who can either be male or female depending on player choice. Dani is a military dropout who just wants to leave their home country, the fictional Caribbean island of Yara. But soon they get pulled into a guerilla resistance effort against Far Cry 6’s big bad villain, Antón Castillo. A fascist ‘El Presidente’ (read: dictator) played by Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Castillo is obsessed with twisting Yara to suit his ideals.
The trailer focuses on the female version of Dani as she meets the various guerilla fighters of Yara and learns to use a host of weapons made from re-purposed and recycled machinery – including a CD player playing the Macarena. Yes, really.
It’s clear that Far Cry 6 is following the series’ staple pitting the good guys against a tyrannical regime. The game will release on October 7th 2021 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
