Battle Royale is a genre that just won’t go away, but another riff on the popular gameplay format is coming to PS4 and PS5 in the form of Hunter’s Arena: Legends, and it will also be available on PS Plus when it launches on August 3.
Shown off as part of the State of Play this morning, Hunter’s Arena: Legends is a “magic-and-melee-infused brawler” that pits 30 players against each other in a “beautifully crafted ancient East Asian world”. Check it out below.
Instead of being purely PVP focused, you can encounter and slay ancient demons in order to collect loot and grow stronger before engaging with other players. There are 17 different Hunters to choose from when you enter the arena, with a mix of close range Hunters who can pull enemies towards them or create shockwaves, and long range Hunters who can deal large damage with projectiles (although it may take some skill to land them perfectly).
In a blog post, several modes are detailed, including Solo, Trio and Tag Match. A range of strategies are also shared by Sanha Cho, Project Manager at Mantisco. They go on to detail a range of stylish moves that certainly makes the gameplay look pretty compelling, including Slipstreaming, something that we’d normally only associate with racing games but an ability that will allow you to chase down opponents when they try to run from the fight.
While the battle royale genre is general has certainly felt over-saturated thanks to games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone and even legacy franchises like Pac-Man getting in on the action, but Hunter’s Arena: Legends could prove different enough to stand out in the crowd.
Hunter’s Arena: Legends will release for PS4 and PS5, as well as being avaialble on PS Plus, on August 3.
