Melbourne development studio PlaySide has announced their next release, a dark fantasy survival RTS by the name of Age of Darkness: Final Stand. Historically a primarily mobile-focused studio, PlaySide has previously released notable games such as the irreverent train safety game – Dumb Ways to Die 3. It’ll be great to see them showcase their development skills in a new genre for a new platform.
Age of Darkness is a unique spin on the RTS genre. With a focus on PvE rather than PvP, the game will see the player take on a horrifying threat shrouded in a nightmarish fog. Enemies are concealed by the fog and attack in droves with the game boasting the ability to show 70,000 AI units on the screen at any given time. You’ll hold off this threat by building defences and expanding your territory. Heroes with special abilities can be acquired and levelled up as you push back against the “death fog”.
Age of Darkness is played on a procedurally generated map with a day and night cycle that brings about different challenges and strategies. With both roguelike and RTS influences, the game will bestow the player with random afflictions and blessings as the player reacts to an ever-changing landscape.
Age of Darkness: Final Stand can be found on Steam. The game is releasing soon as an Early Access release and we can’t wait to see more of this title.
