Here’s your first look at HBO’s The Last of Us series

Posted on September 28, 2021

The Last of Us currently has a TV series adaption in the works. With some seriously high caliber talent behind the scenes, everyone is hoping for an impressive translation of the source material. Seeing as most of the video game to screen adaptions to date tend to be ill-received, there is a lot riding on this.

We were treated to a first look at the in-development series from Neil Druckmann, although it is unfortunately only a single photo. With that said, I would be lying if I didn’t admit I initially thought this was a screengrab from in-game. The aesthetic and character designs seem to be spot on, so it looks to be a step in the right direction!

There are also some leaked set photos floating around the internet, which you can see for yourself in the below Twitter thread. These photos look to be legit and look to provide a real sense of a decimated and empty world, keeping in line with the video game’s story.

Both HBO and Naughty Dog are synonymous with high-quality productions for the most part, so this series has the potential to be huge, not just for gamers and fans of the series, but for the general public at large. Not only do we have some amazing actors playing the main roles in the form of Pedro Pascal (The Mandolorian, Narcos) as Joel and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Ellie, but Neil Druckmann is heavily involved in the development and writing of the series, along with Craig Mazen who is best known for the fantastic Chernobyl series.

There is no firm release date for the series yet, but rumours indicate we would not likely see it released until the final half of 2022, so there is still plenty of time for the series to develop and hopefully come together quite nicely.
