A little over a year since the Lucasfilm Games brand returns and we now know some of the studio’s fruition. Return to Monkey Island is a new game in the beloved point-and-click adventure series, slated to release sometime later this year. Publishing studio Devolver Digital announced the news in a tweet with an accompanying trailer you can view below.
Return To Monkey Island will serve as the sixth game in the series to release. The series’ timeline however becomes a little muddled with this one. It’s slot in-between Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge and the third entry The Curse of Monkey Island. Monkey Island co-creators Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman are spearheading the project, while iconic character Guybrush Threepwood will once again be voiced by Dominic Armato.
It’s an exciting time to be a fan of the series. The last adventure players got to experience was Telltale Games’ 2009 game Tales of Monkey Island. With a wait that long, fans will be more than waiting some months until the game releases later this year. Return To Monkey Island is being developed by Thimbleweed Park development studio Terrible Toybox, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and Devolver Digital. No word yet on what platforms we’ll see this sea-faring adventure take place on.
