Melbourne-made Wayward Strand sails gracefully toward a July release

Presented during the Nintendo Indie Showcase event was a game made by local development studio Ghost Pattern. Their game, Wayward Strand, has been one we’ve been eyeing off very keenly here at Checkpoint ever since we got a chance to play a demo of the title all the way back in 2019.

With a new sneak peak (as seen below), it’s easy to get excited all over again for this narrative-heavy and very earnest indie experience. Releasing accross all major platforms on July 21st, it might be time to put Wayward Strand onto your radar.

As the debut game for Ghost Pattern, Wayward Strand is clearly a labour of love. The game boasts multiple narratives intertwining and unravelling all at once, allowing players to “choose from an ocean of experiences”. Taking place aboard an airship hospital, the opportunity for heartfelt and meaningful conversations to occur with the patients is certainly there. In the 2019 demo alone we saw just how rich and evocative the game is able to be, with strong writing and a beautiful artstyle to boot.

Wayward Strand is set to release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC on July 21, 2022.
