A new and unexpected entry in the DOOM universe is not far away, with Mighty DOOM from developer Alpha Dog Studios promising an “adorably violent top-down, singe-touch action shooter” coming to mobile on March 22, 2023.
The game will be free-to-play, challenging players to run and gun their way through hordes of “lovably brutal demons, iconic levels and challenging bosses”.
In Mighty DOOM, you’ll play as the Mini Slayer, a new miniaturised version of the iconic DOOM Slayer. “When an unknown energy surge rips through a Gibbo toy factory, the Mini Slayer is brought to life and transported to an alternate dimension. The mission? Kill every demon that stands between you and your stolen pet bunny Daisy.”
The top-down action really does look fast and furious, and a lot more colourful than what you’d expect from the universe that is known for its horrific demons and dark hellscapes. If players fall in battle, they can rise again and continue the fight by leveling up, upgrading weapons and gear, and you’ll be able to experience the original ‘animated DOOM universe’, which is said to be an alternate reality of the DOOM universe inspired by DOOM Eternal’s collectible toys.
Aesthetically speaking, it reminds me of Gears POP! which also took a grim and dark world and turned it into something pretty cute in a similar way.
Additionally, anybody who plays the game from launch date on March 22 through to April 20 will receive the Mini Slayer’s Pack with free gear and exclusive weapon skins, including:
