Shadow of the Erdtree, the first major Elden Ring expansion, is in development

FROM Software has now confirmed that its 2022 hit, Elden Ring, has a premium expansion in development. This news comes only a few days following the anniversary of the game’s release.

“Rise, Tarnished, and let us walk a new path together,” the developers have announced on Twitter. “An upcoming expansion for #ELDENRING Shadow of the Erdtree, is currently in development. We hope you look forward to new adventures in the Lands Between.“

Considering the game’s sales and awards success, the confirmation of more Elden Ring content was perhaps inevitable. Furthermore, FROM Software has made a habit of supporting its Souls-likes, from the Dark Souls trilogy to Bloodborne, with ample post-launch content. These expansions themselves have often been lauded for their impressive boss fights and new lore. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree has some high expectations to live up to.

As for when we can expect the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion or how much it will cost, that has yet to be confirmed. It is definitely in development, at least, and may not be the last piece of post-launch content that Elden Ring will receive considering the number of expansions that were developed for each Dark Souls game. Hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer for more news regarding additional Elden Ring content.
