Hollow Knight: Silksong, the long-awaited sequel to Metroidvania hit Hollow Knight, will unfortunately release a bit later than anticipated. The game, which was originally to release in the first half of this year, has been pushed back an unconfirmed amount of time to allow developer Team Cherry to continue polishing it.
Hey gang, just a quick update about Silksong.
We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can.

“Hey gang, just a quick update about Silksong,” Team Cherry member Matthew Griffin advised on Twitter. “We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We’re excited by how the game is shaping up, and it’s gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can. Expect more details from us once we get closer to release.”
The delay of Hollow Knight: Silksong is perfectly understandable, and if it results in a better end result for such a hotly anticipated sequel, then it’s probably a good idea. The game will introduce a whole new setting, protagonist and suite of movement abilities; developing a game of that scale takes time, after all. Considering the technical mess that Redfall was at launch, Microsoft is probably happy to allow a fellow day 1 Xbox Game Pass release title be worked on a bit longer to ensure it releases in a strong technical condition.
There is no clear release date at this stage. Team Cherry has confirmed that more info should be announced before long as the game approaches completion. Hopefully we won’t have too much longer to wait before the game will be ready to play.
