THQ Nordic has revealed a teaser trailer for their new upcoming South Park game during a digital showcase, called Soth Park: Snow Day. Breaking from the series’ trend as RPGs, this new game looks to be a 3D co-op multiplayer set during a snow day that has freed the kids of South Park from their regular scholastic obligations.
THQ had previously teased that a new South Park game was in the works last year, but this is the first time we’ve gotten any details. The chose to move to 3D is curious, given that the show is famous for its 2D art style, but it was likely necessary for the kind of gameplay we see in the trailer. Exactly why the kids of South Park are wreaking havoc on the town is not made clear, but it will likely be as kooky and as Not Safe for Work as its predecessors The Stick of Truth and The Fractured But Whole.
Prior to the original THQ’s bankruptcy in 2012, the studio was originally set to produce South Park: The Stick of Truth. When the company liquidated, it sold off the rights to the game to Ubisoft, who developed and produced the game. Nordic purchased the THQ trademark in 2014 and became THQ Nordic, and now the THQ name can finally produce a South Park game.
South Park: Snow Day is set for release sometime next year for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
