ReedPop and the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) have officially announced that E3 is no more. The troubled gaming expo never quite recovered after Covid moved the event to a digital space and the major console manufacturers pulled out. We then saw the show outright cancelled in 2022 and 2023, before they announced they’d be skipping 2024 and reinventing the expo for 2025. That reinvention is no longer going to happen as the event’s organisers take to social media to announce E3’s complete closure moving forward.

It’s difficult to say goodbye to what was a staple of the gaming calendar and one of the most exciting events for gamers. However, E3 at this point has basically been completely eclipsed by Summer Games Fest, which has already announced its return in June 2024.
With the announcement that E3 is now officially gone forever, we can look back and celebrate what the event used to be, congratulate all those involved over the 20+ years, reminisce on the good memories, and move forward without the ‘will-they-won’t-they’ of the expos return.
