One of the many announcements from the game awards was a debut trailer for Daniel Mullin’s new game Pony Island 2: Panda Circus. If you’re thinking “Wait, there was a Pony Island 1?” you wouldn’t be the only one. Developer Daniel Mullins hit the big time with his game Inscryption, which took the internet by storm and was nominated for Best Indie in 2021. But Mullins had already released two major games before that: The Hex, and Pony Island.
Pony Island trapped the player inside an arcade machine haunted by Lucifer who had created a game about ponies for you to play…. but I guess Lucifer isn’t very good at coding, because the pony game is quite broken. To fix it, the player must solve logic puzzles themes as lines of code and progress the game. It’s hilarious and dark at the same time, with a few fourth wall-bending tricks as well.
The trailer for Pony Island 2 shows a more fleshed-out version of these logic puzzles, but a lot of other styles of gameplay that are hard to decipher at a glance but look super cool nonetheless. Also shown in the trailer is voice actor and YouTube funnyman SungWon Cho, known for his performance as Ratatoskr in God of War: Ragnarok and FL4K in Borderlands 3, in the mysterious role of King Yan.
This reveal trailer leaves us asking a lot of questions, but we are excited nonetheless. Pony Island 2: Panda Circus will be released sometime in 2025 or 2026.
