In January of this year, popular creative puzzle-platformer LittleBigPlanet 3’s servers were shut down following technical difficulties. Now, Sony has announced via its website that the server will be offline indefinitely, with no indication if attempts to fix the server will be ongoing in the meantime. Any user-generated content stored on local devices will still be accessible, but the same cannot be said for millions of custom levels and outfits uploaded to the game’s servers. With the PS3 version’s servers still offline following DDOS attacks in 2021, there is now no way to access LittleBigPlanet 3’s content stored online.
Servers aren’t cheap to maintain, so the sad truth may be that attempting to fix the servers of a 10-year-old game is not economically worthwhile for Sony. Sadly, there aren’t any more recent LittleBigPlanet games that offer a similar experience; Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a co-op platformer with no user-generated content.
