First look at Perfect Dark gameplay at Xbox Games Showcase 2024

The highly anticipated reboot of Perfect Dark was finally revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, offering a glimpse of gameplay. Set in a near-future world of spies, technology, and secrets, this latest instalment brings back the iconic character Joanna Dark in an all-new adventure.

Step into the shoes of secret agent Joanna Dark, navigating a world on the brink of ecological collapse. Earth has suffered a series of disasters, pushing ecosystems to the edge. Joanna’s mission is to hunt down the world’s most wanted criminal, Daniel Carrington, and unravel the mysteries behind dangerous technological breakthroughs that threaten millions of lives.

The trailer shows off the vibrant, near-future setting of Cairo. As Joanna descends into this meticulously crafted environment, she uses advanced parkour abilities and cutting-edge gadgets. The game blends first-person shooter mechanics with immersive sim elements, allowing players to approach missions with unparalleled freedom and creativity. The gameplay reveals Joanna’s arsenal of gadgets, designed for misdirection, manipulation, and combat. In the trailer, she uses a device to create vocal deepfakes, tricking security systems and impersonating characters. Another tool scans NPCs, gathering crucial intel to help tackle objectives strategically. Whether players prefer going loud or remaining stealthy, Perfect Dark offers multiple paths to success.

Combat in Perfect Dark seems to emphasise player choice. Players can opt for lethal or non-lethal weaponry, engage in close-quarters combat, or take down multiple enemies at once with special abilities. This is the first real look we’ve had at the new Perfect Dark game since it’s announcement in 2020.
