Prepare to put your life on the line to win ₩45.6 billion (~ $50.6 million AUD) in this brand-new video game based on the popular South Korean phenomenon. Squid Game: Unleashed is an upcoming mobile game announced by Netflix during this year’s Gamescom event, where players can partake in these death games that were seen in the show.
The trailer starts with the iconic Red Light, Green Light game, which features that giant doll and the room that was seen in the popular K-drama series. However, expect to see some twists, turns, and new obstacles to make it more challenging and more deadly than ever. In addition, it seems Squid Game: Unleashed will also add new games that were not part of the show. Could they be hints on what’s to come when season 2 drops in December?
Squid Game: Unleashed is giving off the impression that it’s probably going to be like Fall Guys, considering that the player avatars have rag doll-like movements attached to them, especially when they fall and die. Also, some of its environments and assets give off that vibe as well. It’s not as blood-heavy compared to the show and seems to be more fun and family-friendly, a complete and total opposite of what Squid Game was originally about.
For those unaware, Squid Game is a show where 456 players participate in these survivor death games, for a chance to change their lives and fix their financial problems. The show was a major success, as it received a high critics score of 95% and an average audience score of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. It also became one of Netflix’s biggest shows, pulling huge viewership numbers upon release. Following its success, Netflix released a reality game show based on the drama and has announced that Season 2 will be released on December 26, 2024.
Squid Game: Unleashed has yet to announce a release date, but it will be available on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
