The highly anticipated Sonic The Hedgehog 3 trailer has finally arrived, and our team of heroes have to face a brand new foe, Shadow the Hedgehog. Shadow was teased during the post-credits scene of Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which came out in 2022, revealing that Shadow was on Earth more than 50 years before our speedy blue hero arrived. Now it’s up to Sonic and friends to save the Earth once more, and possibly make a new ally.
The trailer showed glimpses of Shadow’s backstory, but unlike Sonic, he only found pain and anger rather than family and friendship. Due to Shadow wreaking havoc in the city, Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), and Knuckles (Idris Elba) were called to stop him. Unfortunately, Shadow is stronger and faster than the three of them so the group decides to enlist the help of their foe, Dr. Ivo Robotnik (Jim Carrey) in hopes to save the world.
Sonic 3 will mark Keanu Reeves’ debut in the Sonic film franchise, as he will voice Shadow the Hedgehog. In addition, Variety reported that Sonic 2 was supposed to be the last film Carrey was supposed to work on before his retirement. However, it seems that’s no longer the case as the actor not only reprised the role but will also play Ivo’s grandfather, Gerald Robotnik.
Sonic The Hedgehog is a video game franchise that was first launched in 1991 by Sega and was considered to be a rival to Nintendo’s Mario. The franchise spanned multiple games, TV shows, comics, toys, and films. The first Sonic live-action adaptation was released in 2020, and it was a massive success. It generated over $319 million USD at the Global Box office and received an average critics score of 64 percent and an audience score of 93 percent. Thanks to the film’s success, a sequel was released in 2022 and a TV series, starring Knuckles, has been produced and is now available to stream on Paramount+.
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 enters theaters on December 20, 2024.
