Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Edition physical editions on PS5 have “the wrong version of the game” on them

Outer Wilds, Mobius Digital’s award-winning spacefaring mystery game set in a time loop, has had some issues surrounding its physical release on PS5. The recent physical release, titled Outer Wilds: Archeologist Edition, is supposed to come bundled with the Echoes of the Eye expansion. Unfortunately, due to an error during the manufacturing process, the wrong version of the game was printed on the PS5 discs. Distributor iam8bit has produced a statement on social media apologising for the error and promising workarounds for affected customers.

Unfortunately, for the PS5 physical edition of Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Edition, the wrong version of the game made it into manufacturing,” advised distributor iam8bit in a statement posted to X/Twitter. “As a result, the Echoes of the Eye expansion was not included on the disc.

The company has promised workarounds for customers who purchased Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Edition on PS5 and did not receive the promised DLC. “While Annapurna Interactive continues to investigate – If you purchased a copy from any global retailer, please provide proof of purchase to iam8bit’s customer service to receive a DLC voucher to redeem for the expansion,” iam8bit explained in its statement. “We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience.

This defect does not seem to extend to the other physical editions of Outer Wilds on Nintendo Switch. It is certainly an awkward situation for publisher Annapurna Interactive. We may learn more regarding how this mixup occurred at a later date. It is unclear if new versions of Outer Wilds: Archeologist Edition will be printed on PS5 with the DLC included, or if all physical versions of the game on PS5 will simply continue to not include the expansion unless the customer goes out of their way to request it from iam8bit.

At any rate, physical copies of Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Edition are available for purchase on PS5 and Nintendo Switch; just make sure your copy on PS5 includes all the promised content, otherwise you will need to reach out to iam8bit for support.
