Hades 2, which released in Early Access back in May of this year, has received its first mountain-sized Major Update. Appropriately dubbed the Olympic Update, the patch adds a new region, weapon type, familiars and thousands of lines of dialogue, and much, much more. Some of what we can expect in this update can be found in the trailer Supergiant Games has released.
One of the most notable inclusions in the Olympic Update is a new weapon: Xinth, the Black Coat. As with the other Nocturnal Arms, Xinth can be further customised with different Aspects. Amounting to a magical jetpack, this new weapon in protagonist MelinoĆ«’s arsenal gives her some close-quarters options as well as a rocket-launcher with which she can carpet-bomb her foes from afar. Unfortunately, you need to have unlocked all the previous Nocturnal Arms before it can be accessed, so if you are not yet very far in the game, don’t expect to assault Chronos with your new jetpack anytime soon.
Other notable new features include a new region for the non-Underworld route, two new Animal Familiars (Raki the Raven and Hecuba the Hound) and the ability to decorate the hub area with new cosmetic upgrades. There are lots more music tracks, and many placeholder designs for some NPCs , such as the Stygian boatman Charon, have been updated. These new inclusions are on top of lots of new story content (with the developers boasting of 2,500 new voice lines), rebalancing for the existing Nocturnal Arms, some new boons for enhancing your build and a handy new ability to save Arcana card setups.
If you want more fine details of what is included in Hades 2’s Olympic Update, the full patch notes have been released. For those who prefer audio content, the developers have included a dramatic reading by the game’s narrator as well, for some reason. This is far from the last update we can expect for Hades 2, with Supergiant Games promising a similarly-sized Major Update in early 2025. With Hades 2 already being bigger than its acclaimed predecessor, we can only look forward to how the game will continue to grow as it nears its full release.
