Here’s your first look at gameplay for Slay the Spire II

Posted on December 13, 2024

The first look at roguelike deckbuilder sequel Slay the Spire II was just revealed at The Game Awards 2024. The game was originally announced in April 2024 at the Triple-I showcase and builds on the enormous success of Slay the Spire selling over 1.5 million copies by March 2019 and being named the Best Strategy Game of 2019 by IGN.

The new trailer reveals gameplay very similar to the original with deck-building mechanics, choosing alternate paths on a map layout and discovering new trinkets. Unlike the first game, Slay the Spire II was developed in the Godot engine after the controversy surrounding changes to the Unity game engine licensing agreements.

The game is scheduled to release into early access in 2025 and can be wishlisted on Steam now. For more coverage of the reveals at The Game Awards, check out our coverage of The Witcher 4, Elden Ring: Nightreign and Split Fiction.
