MultiVersus is shutting down after upcoming Season 5

Posted on February 1, 2025

It’s the end of the road for MultiVersus, as developer Player First Games has officially announced that Season 5 will be the game’s final season. The crossover platform fighter, which brought together characters from Warner Bros. franchises like DC Comics, Looney Tunes, and more, will see its online services end on 30 May 2025.

Announced in a developer blog post, Season 5 of MultiVersus will kick off on 4 February and run until 30 May. The final season will introduce two new playable characters: Aquaman from DC Comics and Lola Bunny from Looney Tunes. Both characters will be available through gameplay. Aquaman will be a first-tier reward in the Battle Pass and Lola as a daily login reward.

Online multiplayer will remain available until 31 May at 4 am (30 May, 9 am PST). After that, players will only be able to access MultiVersus through its local gameplay mode, allowing solo matches against AI or local multiplayer with up to three friends. However, to keep playing offline, players must download and log into the latest version of the game sometime during Season 5. Doing so will create a local save file tied to their account, ensuring access to all earned and purchased content even after online services shut down.

As of January 31, all real-money transactions in MultiVersus have been disabled. This means that Gleamium can no longer be purchased, but any remaining in-game currency or character tokens can still be used until the game’s servers go offline. Additionally, after 30 May, MultiVersus will no longer be available for download on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store.

In their official statement, the MultiVersus development team expressed their gratitude to players and supporters: “All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

While it’s sad to see the game go, it’s not a surprise. The game was confirmed by Warner Bros. to have underperformed, contributing to $100M loss. Although it’s resurgence with new characters and content has been well received, it still suffered from not having a strong enough player base. Fans still have one last season to enjoy, with new content and final battles ahead. If you want to keep MultiVersus for offline play, make sure to log in before 30 May to secure your save file.
