People Can Fly announces Lost Rift as its next upcoming Early Access release

People Can Fly, the Polish developers of Outriders and Bulletstorm, has announced its newest game during the Future Game Show. It is called Lost Rift, and will be a “high-stakes First-Person Survival Shooter Adventure blending base-building, cooperative PvE, and intense PvPvE gameplay” according to the developers. Notably, the game will be self-published by People Can Fly its previous two games were published by Square Enix and Gearbox respectively.

The announcement trailer for Lost Rift shows the player waking up on a mysterious island called Pioneer’s Landing. There, you must survive against both hostile wildlife and other humans using weapons scavenged from the environment while crafting a base of operations. The game’s Steam Store page description promises “a focus on player freedom” where “your choices will shape the evolution of your journey“. Lost Rift is designed for both solo play and up to 5-player co-op, where players can exclusively play PvE against AI opponents, or compete against other players in an extraction mode where planning your route and navigating the dangerous weather are key.

Lost Rift appears to be bringing People Can Fly back to its FPS roots after a brief dalliance with a third-person perspective in Outriders. That said, Lost Rift appears to be implementing a lot of the optional multiplayer aspects from Outriders in particular, where the main campaign and post-game missions could be played solo or co-op. It seems unclear how much of a focus on narrative Lost Rift will have, however it is likely more details regarding the solo mode in particular will be revealed later on.

Lost Rift will be launching in Steam Early Access before it fully releases. The game will be coming out in Early Access “soon“, and fans can Wishlist the game on Steam or join the developer’s Discord to follow future updates.
